iPhone 8: waterproof and with wireless charging

iPhone 8 Waterproof? iPhone assembly company Wistron has confirmed what Apple fans have been waiting to hear: the upcoming devices will be waterproof and will feature wireless charging. The information comes from Nikkei Asian Review.

According to two Apple analysts, Jeff Pu and Arthur Liao, Wistron is fulfilling Foxconn's orders for the new 5.5-inch iPhone - believed to be the iPhone 7s Plus or iPhone 8 Plus.iPhone 8

Current models (iPhone 7) are already resistant to moisture and dust. Each device is IP67 certified, but water damage is not covered by Apple's warranty.

Apple warns:

Resistance against humidity, water and dust are not permanent conditions and can be considered a result of normal wear and tear.

Or, to put it simply, older iPhone 7s are less resilient to these conditions.

The new models will feature IP68.6 protection, meaning they will still be dust-resistant but will have additional protection against water. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S8 – which also has IP68 certification – can withstand a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

The iPhone 8 is expected to feature the same (or better) specs. The 4.7-inch version, which is already rumored to feature wireless charging, should also feature improved waterproofing.
