SteamPunks: A release group that appeared out of nowhere managed to crack the popular game Dishonored 2, but in a way that was very different from others. The unknown group SteamPunks released the first KeyGen (from Key Generator) for Denuvo licenses.
It is known that the protection offered by Denuvo's anti-piracy system is the best currently available, and the cracking methods presented so far were not perfect.
The release of DISHONORED.2-STEAMPUNKS, which was made on a top-site and first released on the scene , probably marks the beginning of the end of Denuvo protection.
The cracking scene, as is well known, keeps its gates closed to the general public, and the main players are groups we have known for a long time: ZWT, Core, DEViANCE, FAiRLiGHT, RELOADED, Razor 1911 and many others. The new group SteamРunks seems to appear out of nowhere, but on the other hand the crackers or the cracker behind it, are probably related to the scene.
The release info indicates that the group members were involved with the scene, as the file appears to have been created by someone related.
But what does the Dishonored 2 keygen do? The SteamPunks team's version contains code that allows the user to generate Denuvo licenses per hardware, that is, for each computer they use.
It should be mentioned that creating a keygen requires a lot of programming skills, or reverse engineering. Instead of tampering with a few bytes of a dll or exe to bypass protection with dubious results, the key maker should read and analyze the entire code of the operating system-game to discover under what factors a key is created that unlocks all the functions of the program. Thus, there are many crackers, but few keygenerers, as the whole process requires time and knowledge.
