Samsung couldn't stay away from the Windows 10 party, so the company made an appearance at Computex this week to unveil the all-new Notebook 9 Pro, a new model that brings an S Pen to become the most potent competitor to Microsoft's Surface.
Featuring a 360-degree hinge that allows the touchscreen display to rotate and be used as either a tablet or a laptop, the Notebook 9 Pro will be available in two different sizes, with 13.3-inch and 15-inch displays. Power will come from the latest Intel Core i7 processors, with two RAM variants depending on the device size: the 13.3-inch laptop will feature 8GB of RAM, while the larger 15-inch version will feature 16GB of RAM.
The latter will also come with an AMD Radeon 450 graphics card, and both models will feature 256GB of SSD storage by default, with a microSD card slot available for additional storage.
The S Pen is what sets the device apart from the rest of the Windows 10 laptops and 2-in-1s on the market, as Samsung has gone to great lengths to get it right. It features 4,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and even includes an option similar to the Surface Pen that was refreshed earlier this month.
Of course, it comes with the majority of the features that were available on Samsung phones, such as Air Command for quick options when writing or drawing, but also with support for Windows 10 features like Windows Ink, which means customers will have almost the same experience as Surface users.
Compared to Microsoft, which doesn't think USB-C is ready for prime time, Samsung uses that port for charging, while also offering fast charging functionality. There are two other standard USB ports, as well as HDMI, while a camera enables Windows Hello for quick and secure authentication.
The Notebook 9 Pro will be available later this year, Samsung said, with pricing information to be provided at that point.
