No: Apple will not use USB-C in the upcoming iPhone

Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal ran an interesting report that suggested Apple could ditch the Lightning port in favor of USB-C in the upcoming iPhone. As it turns out, many people's excitement may have been a little premature.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today addressed the rumors, writing that all three upcoming iPhone models will continue to use the Lightning port. According to the analyst, Apple will likely introduce a series of internal changes to offer fast charging capability to the devices.Apple

The analyst says that hardware tweaks would allow Apple to replicate some of the benefits of the USB Type-C port while still using Lightning. As 9to5Mac notes, it remains unclear whether this rumor has anything to do with previous ones that mentioned wireless charging.

Kuo also said that while a USB-C port is certain to have more capabilities than Lightning, Cupertino has very little incentive to make the switch. The analyst says the two main reasons Apple is sticking with Lightning are the licensing fees it will have to pay for USB-C, as well as Lightning's small size, which allows the company to cram it into very small devices.

Apple , which makes sense when you consider the money it will lose if it allows its customers to use the same cable for phones and laptops.

In any case, the chances of seeing a USB-C on an Apple device are very small and we will probably have to wait at least another year until the company decides on some radical change in the iPhone design.
