Samsung: update or even replace the Galaxy S8

Following initial complaints from customers who noticed their new Galaxy S8 phones were displaying an unusual red tint on the screen, Samsung has pledged to release a software update that will resolve the issue.

Speaking to South Korea's The Investor, a company official said that they would not reveal a "specific date yet, but that the update will take place next week at the latest."Samsung Galaxy S8 red screen

“The company has already notified local customer service centers that an update will be released to fine-tune the color balance.”

Should the software update fail to remove the red tint, Samsung will proceed to replace the affected devices with new phones, according to the same publication.

The South Korean website spoke to various experts about what might be causing the red tint on the screens of new smartphones.

Some reported that a software update could fix the color imbalance, but most were skeptical and doubted that a software update would be a viable solution, implying that the cause may be directly hardware-related.

Meanwhile, Samsung has begun rolling out the new Galaxy S8 to global markets, which means we'll soon know exactly how prevalent the red hue is and whether it could be fixed with a simple software tweak.
