Windows XP startup sound used in a microwave oven

Even though Windows XP has been receiving updates and security patches since April 2014, the operating system launched in 2001 still has millions of fans around the world, and its current 9 percent market share is nothing but living proof in this case.

Tim Gremalm of gremalm.se is one of those people who liked to hear the sound of the Windows XP startup music every time before he ate, but by that we don't mean turning on his XP computer before every meal.

What Gremalm did was replace his microwave's annoying buzzer with the Windows XP startup sound for a reason we can all agree on: the sound a microwave makes when food is heated is annoying, so why not replace it with something more fun?

If you think removing the buzzer and choosing a different sound for your microwave is difficult, you're kidding. As Gremalm explains on his blog, it's possible with an Arduino Nano, which takes care of the whole thing, allowing third-party use of the sounds.

Gremalm admits that he picked the Windows XP startup sound "for lack of a better option," so he could replace the sound with anything else at any time. A small amplifier and a 0.5W speaker will make the sound a little louder.

The blog post includes detailed instructions on how the microwave can be configured to use Windows XP sound secondarily , and by following the guide, others could do the same thing, although it's very clear that some skill is required.
