Microsoft: the first Patch Tuesday without a Patch

Today is Patch Tuesday for Microsoft software and operating system users, but it seems like it's just Tuesday, without Patches. No, don't imagine that the company's products didn't have some security gap. Just..

Microsoft published a terse statement on its page about the unusual situation:Patch Tuesday

“Our top priority is to provide the best possible experience for our customers to maintain and protect their systems. This month, we discovered a last-minute issue that could impact some customers and was not resolved in time for our scheduled upgrade today.”

“After considering all options, we have made the decision to delay this month’s updates. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause.”

This may also be the first time the company has not released its established Patch Tuesday updates since it began releasing security patches every second Tuesday of the month.

As ZDNet's Zack Whittaker reports, today's delay means there is no fix yet for the SMB bug to close the loophole exploited by an exploit already in circulation.

Microsoft has tweaked its update schedule since last year, but the second Tuesday of the month remains the regularly scheduled Tuesday for updates, or as it has been known for years as Patch Tuesday.

Today's updates, security or not, are coming for all Microsoft products, especially the most used ones: Windows, Office, Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge. It remains to be seen the exact reason for the delay, which we will probably learn after the updates are released... Until then, sail safe..
