Facebook announced a number of major upgrades to your videos today. Some of them are welcome, and some not so much.
Let's get the not-so-good news out of the way first: Facebook will start supporting auto-playing audio in videos, so you should prepare for unwanted noises.
In a Facebook memo, it says it has heard positive feedback from testing, and has decided to roll out the feature to everyone. The sound will fade as you scroll through your news feed, and won't play at all if your phone is on silent mode.
Most importantly, you can disable the feature from your app's "video with sound in News Feed" setting.
The rest of the changes are less controversial. Vertical videos will take up a much larger portion of your screen on Android and iOS devices.
You'll also now be able to enable a picture-in-picture mode to minimize a video window and continue scrolling through your News Feed while looking at a video that caught your eye.
The videos will be like Facebook chat. You will be able to see them in a corner of your screen while you continue browsing. If you are an Android user, you will be able to continue watching the video, even after you exit the Facebook application. It should be mentioned that this feature is not available in the official YouTube application either.
Finally, Facebook announced that it will soon launch a video app for Apple TV, Amazon Fire, and Samsung Smart TVs, with other platforms to follow.
