Dark Web: What lies hidden in the darkest corners of the Internet

Web

What is there on the internet that is only accessible through Tor?

What is the Dark Web? What secrets lie in its dark sides? Many are wondering. New users of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge often encounter terms like Dark Web, Deep Web and Tor. This creates thousands of questions and awe at the same time.

The "dark web" is the encrypted network that exists between Tor servers and their clients, while the "deep web" is simply the content of databases and other web services that, for one reason or another, cannot be indexed by conventional search engines.

Neither the Deep nor the Dark Web can be reconfigured, but it’s not the only thing that can’t be reconfigured. Even the most professional users don’t venture into the vast depths of the dark web. For casual users, it’s a highly biased, mysterious place, one that the media would have you believe is a seedy hive of scum and depravity. Activists will tell you that it’s our last hope for privacy and free speech.

First of all, if you want someone important to take you seriously, ditch the term Dark/Deep Web. What you want is to access sites that use Tor’s Hidden Service Protocol. It works on top of the regular Tor (anonymity network), but instead of routing traffic from your computer and through many different servers, it stays within the Tor network. You won’t know exactly what system you’re accessing unless they tell you, and they won’t know who you are unless they already know – or if you’re careless.

But what exactly is on the dark web? The hidden nature of the Dark Web can make it difficult to know exactly what goes on there, but it is often linked to financial fraud, file sharing, and data breaches, including the selling of stolen personal information.
