The Kim Dotcom drama doesn't seem to be ending. Recently, in an interview with Slashdot, the controversial entrepreneur hinted that he has lost control of Mega, the company he founded as a successor to Megaupload.
Launched two years ago, Mega quickly became very popular. In the new company, Kim Dotcom put all his shares in the name of his wife.
But since Kim and his wife Mona recently divorced, Kim Dotcom no longer has any influence over the company he founded.
He also asked Mega users not to trust the service too much, stating:
“I don't think your data is safe on Mega anymore.”
“I am not involved in Mega anymore. Neither as a manager nor as a shareholder. The company has been hit by an aggressive takeover by a Chinese investor who is wanted in China for fraud. He used to buy shares of Mega through different persons who do not exist.”
“Recently his shares were seized by the New Zealand government. Which means the New Zealand government is now in control.”
But Kim Dotcom promised to come back. He even mentioned a new project he's planning after the end of the year, when his non-compete clause with Mega expires.
According to Dotcom, his new project will be a website like Mega, but unlike his previous efforts, he will make the company's source code available online so that anyone can check it out.
Dotcom, of course, with this move will try to gain the trust of his users again "by creating an open source website like Wikipedia.".
“I want to give everyone free, unlimited, encrypted cloud storage with the help of donations from the community,” Dotcom said.
