During the keynote at I/O 2015, Google announced Android M, the latest version of its mobile operating system that will be released later this year.

Along with the announcement of Android M, Google also confirmed that the Developer Preview version will be available for download today.
However, the Developer Preview version will not be compatible with all devices, but only with the most popular Nexus devices.
Thus, from today, the owners of Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will be able to download the Android M Developer Preview.
According to Google, the Android M Developer Preview includes updated SDK tools, system images for testing on the official Android emulator, and system images for testing on Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player devices.
Android M has several new features that aim to provide greater privacy protection for the user, as well as longer battery life.
Thus, with Android M Google is said to have perfected the system that grants permissions to apps. Also, with a new feature called Doze, Android M will use motion detection to know when the device is not being used. Thus it will automatically go into sleep mode, for longer battery life.
Android M will be released this fall.
