Google has just announced that mobile payments on Android will launch in the third quarter of 2015. With the new Android Pay feature, users of Google's operating system will be able to make payments in a simple and secure way.
The company announced that it has partnered with carriers and stores in the United States, so Android Pay will come pre-installed on devices available through AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.
However, Android Pay will also be available for download through Google's Play Store. This means that when local stores integrate the service, you'll be able to use Android Pay too.
According to Google, Android Pay is accepted at more than 700,000 stores across the U.S., and in over 1,000 Android apps. More are being added daily.
With Android Pay, users will be able to make payments with their mobile phone through terminals at participating stores, but the service can also be used for online purchases.
Simply select “Buy with Android Pay” and you won’t need to add your credit card number or shipping address every time you make an online purchase.
Android Pay partners, subscription services and select retailers will provide users with loyalty programs and special offers.
In addition, Google's Android Pay service allows users to pay with a credit or debit card, from many Android devices, and in thousands of stores.
Google also confirmed that it is working with all major payment networks in the United States, such as American Express, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa, to make Android Pay as secure as possible.
Android Pay will be released alongside Android M later this year. Initially, the service will only be available in the United States. The company did not say anything about the service's availability in other countries.
