Tim Cook on the possibility of an iPhone with a larger screen

Tim Cook Q4

During Apple's first fiscal quarter earnings call, Tim Cook answered a question about whether the company plans to release an iPhone with a larger screen.

Goldman Sacks analyst Bill Shope asked Tim Cook the following:

Many of your competitors have focused on differentiating themselves by offering larger screens than the iPhone 5 and its predecessors. What do you think about the competitive dynamics in the market right now? Do you think this is a valid point of differentiation and do you think there is potential in the future for a larger screen or even a wider variety of screens on both the iPhone and other smartphones in general?

Tim Cook's response:

Bill, as you know, iPhone 5 features a new 4-inch Retina display that is the most advanced in the industry. Nothing comes close to the quality of the Retina display. It also gives iPhone users a larger screen without sacrificing the ease of one-handed use. We thought a lot about the size of the display, and believe me, we made the right choice.

Tim Cook's response doesn't say much. He may be trying to put an end to the rumors of a larger screen so he can surprise us later this year. But maybe they don't really intend to release iPhones with a larger screen even if they stay at 4 inches.
