During Apple's earnings call yesterday, Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster asked Tim Cook about the future of Apple TV. Munster has been banging the drums for an Apple HTDV for years now, and Tim Cook has avoided answering directly for years as well.
That's why Tim Cook reiterated to Munster yesterday that Apple TV "is still a key area of focus ," noting that he wished he could say more. "We have a lot to offer in the space," Cook said. "We continue to push the envelope and wherever it takes us ." Cook gives the same answer every time. He's probably up to something.
Additionally, Apple noted that 2 million Apple TVs were sold in the last quarter, a 60% increase over last year.
