Google and WhatsApp have teamed up to offer users of the instant messenger a new feature that will allow them to back up their chat history whenever they want.
Thanks to the new Google Drive integration , WhatsApp users can now upload their chat history to the Cloud to read later.
Users will be able to upload a story, video, or photo taken through the app. Additionally, Google says you'll be able to create a private backup of your chat history, voicemails, photos, and videos directly to Google Drive.
Once you make a backup, you will be able to restore everything that has been uploaded to Google Drive with a few clicks.
The new feature will be released in stages
Keep in mind, however, that the new backup feature may not be available to all WhatsApp users immediately, but Google has confirmed that it has already begun the global rollout that will be completed within the coming months.
This is the first time that the What's Up app has benefited from a backup service that allows users to upload their chat history to the cloud. The classic version of the app only provided users with local backup, so its usefulness was rather limited.
But starting this week, if you're lucky, you'll be able to upload your WhatsApp chat history to Google Drive.
If you don't have the app yet, you can now download WhatsApp Messenger for Android for free via the Google Play Store. It should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.3 and up.
