Twitter adds “blocking lists” feature

Twitter 's efforts to combat harassment and abuse have become apparent in recent months, but company representatives have not specifically mentioned "blocking" services since the social network's revamp last December.

This led independent developers to create their own “blocking” systems, usually designed to block a large number of accounts at once.

The social network decided not to follow suit by creating its own blocking lists , and company representatives announced on Wednesday that the service has already helped users share their own lists.

A Twitter by Xiaoyun Zhangexplains how users can now create their own lists of blocked accounts, which will be converted into an archive and can be sent to other users.

The creator of BlockTogether, the free tool that requires login access to block accounts, both known competitors and accounts younger than 14 days, posted a response to the social network's announcement, with hopes for more updates from the popular social network.

Developer Jacob Hoffman-Andrews , however, addressed key issues with the current solution, particularly the lack of auto-updating of these lists, which means that in this form of the tool, users will have to manually log in and add accounts. However, he was optimistic when he talked about new tools, such as Randi Harper 's ShieldsUp , that have already begun to "marry" the popular social network's new internal features with anti-abuse blacklist generators.
