Facebook employees have access to your account

Did you know that Facebook employees can access your account on the popular website without even needing to know your password?

As cybersecurity reports, Facebook recently announced who can access your account, when and under what conditions.

Undoubtedly, Facebook, but also several large companies, including Google, Apple and Yahoo!, ensure that law enforcement authorities do not have direct access to your data – for reasons of protecting the privacy of your communication and personal data – but at the same time, some employees of the companies may have access to it.

A major record label executive shared his experience visiting Facebook in a post last week. He said he gave permission for an employee to access his personal account, but was never asked for his password.

Access without warning

In fact, the user never received a notification from Facebook that someone had accessed their account, as usually happens when an unauthorized user gains (or attempts to gain) access to the user's account through a new device or from a different geographical location.

For this reason, he asked for details on how many people have this freedom of access and in what cases. Facebook's response was as follows:

"We implement strict administrative, physical and technical controls to prevent company employees from accessing user personal data. Our controls have been assessed by independent third-party authorities and their implementation is regularly audited by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Ireland."

"Who can actually access my Facebook account?"

The company has not given a clear explanation, but has assured that access to accounts is only done in exceptional cases and for specific reasons, mainly related to responding to user reports of information or errors. In any case, if abuse is detected, then the consequences are severe for the offenders.

In short, the social networking giant has a customer service tool that allows employees to access a user's account. It even operates two separate monitoring that produce weekly reports on suspicious behavior, which are reviewed more thoroughly by two different security teams.

Facebook has strictly warned employees about using this tool and has fired employees when abuse was detected. So, you are not in danger from Mark Zuckerberg, as long as you do not send reports of the slightest problem to Facebook.
