Malware has been a common form of computer infection for many years. It is not a script, .exe or .dll virus but comes as a normally installed program that even allows remote malicious management of your files. Its name is Malicious Software (Mal-ware) .
One such software is circulating and attacks UEFI BIOS under the name LightEater. UEFI BIOS is an operating system installed on new generation motherboards and like all operating systems, it has some vulnerabilities. At a security , CanSecWest, computer security researchers Corey Kallenberg and Xeno Kovah revealed that even an untrained user can use LightEater to infect a vulnerable system in just a few minutes.
An outdated BIOS can easily be infected with malware or a virus. Motherboards from companies such as Gigabyte, Acer, MSI, HP, Asus are at risk, as are all motherboards of any use, even those used in large enterprises. The NSA, which is currently the largest surveillance company in the world, is also included in the category of attackers.
Our advice is to search based on the version of your motherboard which revised model you have (the revision is written on the board) and refer to the manufacturer's page and download the software that passes the patch or update of your BIOS. Make sure with a program from those provided by your motherboard company such as Gigabyte's @BIOS or MSI's Live Update and so on, that you do not have the latest and proceed to update it with instructions that you will find on the same pages. If you have the latest, expect an update in the future if it is deemed necessary to eliminate any vulnerability.
It would be to your advantage to update your hardware as often as you update your operating system. You will definitely benefit from their performance, especially if you think carefully about your graphics cards.
