It's no surprise that Nintendo is working on a new console. After all, with the launch of new products, engineers immediately start working on new designs, since it takes a long time for a game console to hit the market.
At a press conference last week detailing its plans for a mobile gaming partnership with DeNa, the company also mentioned a new system codenamed “NX.” In the few details it revealed, the company referred to the all-new hardware and gameplay experience of the NX. The NX symbol appeared on a slide alongside Nintendo’s Wii U, 3DS, and other consoles, suggesting it might be a complementary system rather than a replacement for an existing system.
The NX will also bring a new service for members to a new club, developed in collaboration with DeNA, and will replace Club Nintendo, integrating multiple devices, including the Wii U, 3DS, but also third-party devices for games, such as smartphones and tablets.
It is estimated that Nintendo is making this move now to calm its fans, due to the decision to collaborate with DeNa for mobile games. Nintendo fans believe that the company may lose its character with mobile games and stop developing hardware. By making the announcement about the NX, even without other details, the company wants to reassure gamers that it is still in the game of titles and hardware and is not going to withdraw from it.
