For fans of classic old games who want to play them on their iPhone, there is a security hole in iOS 8 that allows SNES games to be installed on the iPhone without the need for a jailbreak!
The upcoming version of iOS 8 has the infamous “Date Trick,” which allows iOS emulators to bypass the App Store and run on iPhones and iPads, since Apple prohibits it for copyright reasons.
This loophole is called the “Date Trick,” discovered by Dario Sepulveda of GBA4iOS and has been widely used by emulator makers like GBA4iOS and SNES since last year, allowing users to download and install apps from Safari.
Technically, by turning the date back at least two months on the iPad or iPhone, we can bypass Apple's restriction and run emulator applications without jailbreaking our device.
How to download SNES SiOS SUPER NINTENDO EMULATOR for iOS 8
- On our iOS8 device, open Safari and go to iEmmulators.com
- Go to the Apps tab and scroll down to SiOS: A SNES emulator and click to install.
- Go to Settings > General > Date and Time.
- We select Automatically Set to Off and set the date two months back.
- We repeat the installation process as above.
- When the installation is complete, open SiOS and click TRUST in the dialog box that opens.
- Go back to Settings and in the General tab, select the automatic date setting to On.
After installing the Emulator, we put the operating system versions we want (ROM) and start running our classic games. To find these on iPhone, we do the following steps:
- We go to CoolRoms(Super Nintendo) and select ROM(version).
- Select “Download Now” and then 'Open in SiOS' and the ROM will be saved in SiOS.
- We go to SiOS and select the ROM we want from there.
- From now on we can enjoy our favorite game!
Unfortunately, Apple will close this loophole in the next version of iOS 8.1, so if you want to continue running Emulators, don't upgrade to the new version yet, which is expected later this month.
