Twitter is suing the US government in an attempt to "relax" restrictions on messages circulated publicly on the social network, regarding national requests it receives for user data.
The company filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department in federal court in northern California, claiming its rights are violated by restrictions that prohibit the disclosure of the number of letters it receives from the National Security and Intelligence Agency and the number of court decisions, even if that number is zero.
Twitter Vice President Ben Lee wrote in a blog post that the lawsuit was filed in an attempt to publish the full text of this year's "transparency report" that includes such data.
