Microsoft's Head of Enterprise Security, Andy Malone, argues that the Tor (The Onion Router) network does not provide the anonymity that many users believe it does.
Speaking at Microsoft's TechEd North America event earlier this week, the founder of the Cybercrime Security Forum said that hackers and government agencies can now compromise the security of the TOR network.
TOR was first installed in September 2002, originally designed as a means for Internet users from countries with repressive regimes to bypass government surveillance and similar controls on the Internet. The software-enabled service, which relies on benevolent Internet switching providers around the world, purportedly provides a high degree of anonymity by rerouting IP addresses and removing other identifying information from TCP/IP data transmissions.
