Xiaomi has officially confirmed the Sky Nomad name, putting an end to months of rumors surrounding its new venture in the electric extended-range vehicle (EREV) segment. The new series will debut with a large family SUV that aims to combine high electric range, advanced technologies, and a highly competitive price in one of the fastest-growing segments in the Chinese market.
The announcement marks another important step in Xiaomi's expansion strategy beyond smartphones and smart devices, with the company now seeking to gain a leading role in the automotive industry.
Sky Nomad: A new family of vehicles
The reveal was made via Xiaomi EV's official Weibo account, where a poster with the Sky Nomad logo and the message that it is "a new name that is about space and life". Shortly afterwards, the company's CEO, Lei Jun, reposted the announcement, hinting that the commercial release of the first model is not far off.

In the Chinese market, the series is expected to be released under the name Xiaomi Pengcheng, while the company has already registered relevant accounts on popular digital platforms and has proceeded with the necessary trademark registration procedures.
One of the things that still remains unclear is whether the Sky Nomad will operate as a standalone brand or as a separate model line under the Xiaomi EV umbrella. In any case, everything indicates that it will be positioned alongside the already successful SU7 and YU7, significantly expanding the company's range.

The N90 leads the way
The first representative of the new family will be the Sky Nomad N90, known until now under the internal code name Kunlun N3. It is an SUV over 5.3 meters long, with a wheelbase of 3.1 meters, dimensions that place it in the category of large premium family models.
Unlike the SU7 and YU7, the new model will not be purely electric. It will utilize Extended Range Electric Vehicle (EREV), where a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery, never transmitting power to the wheels. This keeps everyday driving electric, while eliminating the stress of range on long journeys.

Large battery and range of over 1,500 kilometers
According to the information so far, the N90 will be equipped with a battery with a capacity of more than 70 kWh, offering an electric range estimated at between 400 and 500 kilometers. With the assistance of the engine-generator, the total range is expected to exceed 1,500 kilometers, a performance that places the model among the most efficient vehicles in its category.
Of particular interest is the fact that its battery has a larger capacity than even several purely electric models on the market, an element that highlights Xiaomi's philosophy of offering drivers as much flexibility as possible.

Design with an emphasis on technology and adventure
The leaked photos reveal an SUV with bold, squared-off lines and a dynamic appearance. Equipment is expected to include a LiDAR sensor for advanced driver assistance systems, electrically folding door steps, and five- or seven-seat versions.
A special feature is the integrated rooftop tent in the seven-seater version, an option aimed at outdoor enthusiasts and camping, a trend that is particularly booming in the Chinese market. Xiaomi seems to be investing in a model that is not limited to daily commutes, but can also function as a recreational vehicle.
Aiming for the top of the EREV market
The starting price is estimated to be around 200,000 yuan, significantly lower than competing models such as the Li Auto L9 and Aito M9. With this aggressive pricing policy, Xiaomi is attempting to claim share in a category where the two manufacturers currently dominate.

At the same time, the N90 is a key element of the company's business plan for 2026, when it aims to deliver 550,000 vehicles worldwide. The continuous increase in deliveries of the SU7 and YU7, combined with the approval of the production of EREV vehicles by the Chinese authorities, create the conditions for Xiaomi to develop into one of the most important new "players" in the electric mobility market. The official launch of the Sky Nomad N90 is expected in the second half of 2026 and is already considered one of the most anticipated arrivals in the electric SUV market.
