Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will be ending its life cycle in October, marking the end of yet another live-service title from the company. The free-to-play RPG, which was one of the most important mobile releases in the Final Fantasy, will remain available for a few more months before its servers are shut down for good.

The announcement confirms the concerns of many players, as the game has shown a slowdown in the production of new content in recent months. However, Square Enix assures that new events and updates will continue to be added until the last day of operation, so that fans of the title can enjoy one last journey into the world of Midgar.
A game that reunited the entire Final Fantasy 7 universe
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis made its first appearance on Android and iOS in September 2023, and a few months later it became available via Steam for PC.

Unlike a traditional remake, Ever Crisis served as a single platform that brought together almost the entire story of the Final Fantasy VII universe . Playershad the opportunity to relive events from the original game, as well as productions such as Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children , and Dirge of Cerberus, through updated graphics and a modern combat system.
But the greatest interest was focused on the new story The First Soldier, which presented unknown aspects of Sephiroth's past and the creation of the SOLDIER military unit, offering new narrative material even to the most fanatical fans of the series.
When does the operation stop?
Square Enix announced that the game's servers will be shut down on October 6that 11:00 PM (PT), which in many countries corresponds to October 7th.
At the same time, the company immediately proceeded to eliminate purchases of the premium currency Red Crystals.
Specifically:
- Sales of Red Crystals have already been discontinued.
- Existing Red Crystals can be used until the servers are shut down.
- New events and updates will continue to be released until the last day of operation.
- After the service is terminated, player data and accounts will be permanently deleted.
The company explained that the decision was made because it was no longer feasible to continue providing the level of service and content that the community had come to expect.

Players still have reasons to return
Although the countdown has begun, Square Enix intends to keep the community active until the end.
The developers have already planned special events, additional missions, and rewards, giving players the opportunity to complete pending stories, obtain rare equipment, and utilize their premium currency before it becomes useless.
For many fans of the game, this is the last chance to relive the adventures of Cloud, Tifa, Zack, and of course Sephiroth, in a version that combined nostalgia and new content.

The end of another live-service title
The closure of Ever Crisis adds to the ever-growing list of games that rely on online services and stop working.
In recent years, more and more companies have chosen to end titles that can no longer be financially supported or do not have a sufficiently active player base. This creates a new concern about the sustainability of digital games, as even productions with millions of downloads can disappear in a matter of hours.
The case of Ever Crisis is typical, as it is a title that invested significantly in the continuous provision of content and online functions, elements that make it impossible to operate without active servers.

Square Enix continues changes to its digital services
This isn't the first time this year that Square Enix has announced the withdrawal of services related to well-known franchises. Earlier this year, the company announced that it would discontinue cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts games on Nintendo Switch in 2027. Although in that case the cloud versions were replaced by native versions, the announcement caused strong reactions, as many users had purchased the games in question.

These moves show that Square Enix is completely rethinking its strategy around online services and live-service projects, now placing greater emphasis on productions with a clearer business model and longer lifespan.
One chapter closes, a new one opens
Although Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is coming to an end, the Final Fantasy VII universe is far from over. Players still have a few months to enjoy the final stories, participate in the final events, and say goodbye to a title that attempted to unite the entire timeline of Square Enix's most iconic game.
Attention is now focused on Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which is expected to be released in the spring of 2027 and aspires to be the next great chapter of the beloved franchise, keeping the interest of millions of fans of the series alive around the world.
