Apple appears to be on the verge of one of the biggest changes in its laptop lineup. According to the latest information and leaks from the company's supply chain , its next flagship laptop might not even be called the MacBook Pro . Instead, Apple is seriously considering creating an entirely new premium class called the "MacBook Ultra ," positioning the device above and beyond the existing Pro models.

The move is part of the company's overall strategy to further differentiate its product range, creating clearer price and feature categories. As was the case with the Apple Watch Ultra and CarPlay Ultra, the "Ultra" name seems to be used for products aimed at the most demanding users and professionals.
What new features are expected in the “MacBook Ultra”?
Next-generation OLED display for superior image quality
One of the most important features of the upcoming MacBook Ultra is expected to be the switch to OLED displays. According to information from Mark Gurman and analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Samsung Display has already begun major investments in new OLED panel production lines intended for Apple's next devices.

The new hybrid OLED technology will be based on a similar architecture to that of the latest iPad Pro, offering significantly better brightness, higher contrast, and deeper blacks than the existing mini-LED displays of today's MacBook Pros.
In addition, the OLED display is expected to significantly improve energy efficiency, which could lead to even greater battery life, despite the high performance of the new processors.
Analysts estimate that Apple wants to create the best display ever on a laptop, targeting professional content creators, video editors and designers.

Touch comes to Macs for the first time
Perhaps the most radical change concerns touchscreen support. For years, Apple has publicly argued that touchscreen capabilities don't fit the Mac philosophy. However, reports suggest that the new MacBook Ultra will be the first Mac with full touch input on the display.
The company seems to be choosing a hybrid approach, where the user will be able to use both touch and the traditional trackpad or mouse without restrictions.
This means that macOS will need significant changes to make it more touch-friendly. Larger buttons, dynamic controls, and a new interface adapted to touch interaction are expected to be key elements of the new operating system.

Apple has previously experimented with the idea of touch via the Touch Bar, but the result was not satisfactory to either users or the company itself. This time, the approach seems much more comprehensive.
Slimmer design without compromise
The new MacBook Ultra is expected to follow the design philosophy of the latest iPad Pro and iPad Air, with an extremely thin and light profile. Gurman says Apple is aiming to create the thinnest premium laptops on the market without removing essential features.
This is particularly interesting, as the 2021 MacBook Pro redesign resulted in a thicker body due to the return of ports like HDMI and MagSafe.
The big bet for Apple is now to maintain all these professional features, while at the same time significantly reducing the thickness and weight of the device.

Dynamic Island and new design on macOS
The leaks also suggest that Apple is considering replacing the existing notch with a Dynamic Island similar to that of the iPhone Pro models.
The new area will be interactive and will dynamically adapt depending on applications and system functions. For example, it can display media controls, notifications, charging information or active processes.
This change is considered important, as many users had complained about the current MacBook Pro notch, which affects the macOS menu bar.

M6 processors with 2nm architecture
Inside the new MacBook Ultra are expected to be the next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max, based on TSMC's 2nm process.
The new architecture promises higher performance, better power management , and a significantly more powerful Neural Engine for AI functions.
The move to 2nm will allow Apple to integrate more transistors into a smaller space, increasing computing power without a corresponding increase in power consumption.
If the information is confirmed, the MacBook Ultra could be the most ambitious laptop Apple has ever created and perhaps the first real step towards a new era of portable computing focused on artificial intelligence and complete hardware and software integration.
