Internet users are urged to be especially wary of emails purporting to come from Apple and informing users of alleged changes to their account details.
Malicious messages are actually sent by cybercriminals with the aim of deceiving unsuspecting users and stealing their personal and financial information.
The misleading messages, titled “Account Info Change”, state:
“The following information for your Apple ID was updated on 11/4/2013: Shipping address and/or billing address. If these changes were made in error, or if you believe that someone has gained unauthorized access to your account, you are encouraged to reset your account password immediately using the following link [link].”.
According to Hoax Slayer, the links do not point to the genuine Apple website, but to a phishing website, where users are asked to enter their Apple account login details, banking information, and other personal data.
If you receive similar emails, make sure the links they contain point to a genuine Apple website. If you have already provided your details, it is recommended that you change your password immediately and monitor your bank account transactions regularly.
