Microsoft has announced the availability of a new innovative feature for Teams Premiumthat aims to enhance privacy and security during digital meetings. The new Teams feature, called Screen Recording Prevention, will automatically block screenshots and recordings while a meeting is in progress.

Although the feature was introduced in May 2025 and was initially scheduled to be released in July, its release was delayed until early November 2025, as officially announced by the company.

This new addition comes at a time when concerns about the leakage of confidential information through video conferencing are increasing, particularly in organizations that handle sensitive data or government information.

Microsoft: How “Screen Recording Prevention” works

The feature limits visual access to meeting content by disabling the native screen capture capability on Windows and Android, both through the devices' built-in tools and third-party applications.

On Windows PCs, any screenshot attempt will display a black frame around the meeting window, while on Android smartphones and tablets , a notification will appear informing you that screen capture is limited. On platforms that do not yet support the feature, users will be able to participate with audio only, without access to image or content sharing.

The feature is disabled by default, and must be manually by the organizer or co-organizer of each meeting through Meeting Options. Microsoft 365 administrators can centrally configure security policy through Entra ID, offering more flexible control for large organizations.

Protection, but not absolute security

It's worth noting that even if screenshots and recordings are completely blocked, the measure can't prevent physical recording via photos or videos from external devices. However, Microsoft emphasizes that the feature adds a substantial layer of protection, preventing the unofficial sharing of visual content and limiting the human element of risk.

Parallel movements and stricter security policy

The introduction of the new feature is part of a broader cybersecurity upgrade that Microsoft has been rolling out in recent months. The company has already begun integrating malicious URL and file detection mechanisms into the Teams environment, warning users when they receive or send suspicious links via private messages or collaboration channels .

According to Microsoft, these upgrades aim to reduce phishing and insider breaches, a phenomenon that has increased dramatically in companies that use collaboration platforms for their daily operations.

From WhatsApp to Teams: The privacy wave on communication platforms

Microsoft isn't the first company to invest in "digital deterrence" tools. Earlier in 2025, WhatsApp introduced its "Advanced Chat Privacy", which prohibits the taking of chat snapshots and unauthorized storage of media from group or private chats.

A Teams that "respects" confidentiality

According to figures presented by Microsoft at the Enterprise Connect, Teams now has over 320 million monthly active users, across 181 markets and 44 languages. With such reach, protecting digital meetings becomes strategic for the company.

The new feature is not just a technical feature — it is a message to businesses that confidentiality and digital ethics are now an integral part of professional communication.

In an era where every screenshot can be a source of leakage, Microsoft is attempting to build a safer, more responsible collaboration ecosystem, laying the foundation for the future of digital trust.
