Samsung's rugged smartphone will have a larger battery

Although Samsung is still months away from its release, the first information about the device has already begun to be revealed.

As the title suggests, the next Xcover will feature a larger battery than previous models, which makes perfect sense, given that 5,000 mAh batteries have now become the industry standard.

However, Samsung hasn't quite reached that level yet. The Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro, which is rumored to be the company's next addition to its rugged smartphone, is expected to launch in mid-2025. However, the device's battery has already been certified in South Korea, according to Galaxy Club.

Based on the listing on the Safety Korea platform, the Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro will feature a 4,350 mAh battery, slightly larger than the battery that the Galaxy Xcover 7 had. Although this is a small upgrade, this capacity falls significantly short of today's standards, which is especially problematic for a rugged device intended for extensive use and durability of many days.

The Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro will undoubtedly introduce other improvements over previous models in the series, but it's crucial for Samsung to offer meaningful upgrades that will convince users to either upgrade or buy their first rugged smartphone.

For now, the only confirmed feature of the Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro (or whatever Samsung chooses to call it) is its battery size. This is to be expected, as the device is still in development.

The Galaxy Xcover series has been somewhat confusing regarding its release schedule, with many models expected to launch in the second quarter of the year, while others are expected to arrive earlier. Battery certification suggests that the Galaxy Xcover 8 Pro could launch in the first quarter, despite the possibility of a delay until mid-2025.
