Meta is opening the doors to an independent artificial intelligence (AI) image creation platform , called Imagine .

The company has been working on this technology for some time. For example, WhatsApp has been offering a trial version of in-app image creation since August this year. Previously, users had to have the Meta app installed on their smartphones to access this feature. However, with Imagine, an email address is enough to create an account on the platform. Once you are logged in, you are free to create whatever you want, simply by entering a text message. This feature is used in a similar way to DALL-E.

While testing the site, we discovered that the AI creates four 1,280 x 1,280 pixel JPEG images. You can download them by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner. The option will appear in the menu.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that it is possible to create content featuring famous cartoon characters, such as Homer Simpson and even Mickey Mouse. We expected that there would be restrictions on such copyrighted content ,but it seems that this is not the case. While the images are impressive, there are some notable drawbacks.
Restrictions
A lot of care went into developing Imagine. As you know, Imagine uses Meta’s proprietary Emu learning model. According to a company report from September, Emu was trained on more than “1.1 billion images.” At the time, no one really knew the source of that data. However, Nick Clegg, Meta’s president of global affairs, told Reuters that it used public posts on Facebook and Instagram to train the model. In total, more than a billion social media accounts were taken down.
To limit all this data, Meta has imposed some restrictions. The technology keeps things family-friendly by rejecting violent or sexual content, as well as references to famous people.

For example, when we asked Meta AI to create an image of former President Barack Obama, it refused. However, when we asked it to create “a former President of the United States”, the artificial intelligence created an image that resembled President Obama.
