As revealed in a Bloomberg report, the jobs of some “development and maintenance teams” responsible for the construction of stores and other buildings, as well as some administrative positions, are threatened with layoffs.
The exact number of positions affected is not known, but Apple describes the move as a “streamlining effort” rather than the mass layoffs it has been trying to avoid in recent months. CEO Tim Cookhas said that layoffs should be considered an absolute last resort.
Apple's recent announcement suggests that it is reviewing roles deemed redundant to reduce costs while avoiding drastic staff reductions, presenting affected employees with the opportunity to apply for other positions within the company.

Those who are not accepted into their desired job may be entitled to up to four months of salary as part of an elaborate severance package.

Even those not directly affected by the layoffs or layoffs will be under close scrutiny as the company has returned to a strict in-office policy. Many employees suspect this could simply be an attempt to build a case for future layoffs.
