Steamworld Build isn't just a new city-building game , but a game that pays homage to Dungeon Keeper (which was released in 1997) . The SteamWorld series of games, developed by Thunderful Games , has certainly had a sense of diversity in it – starting with SteamWorld Dig , a platforming and mining game inspired by the Metroid series. Then came SteamWorld Heist, a turn-based tactical shooter, and then SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, a card-based RPG . Now, Thunderful and its in-house studio (The Station) are attempting to enter a new genre with SteamWorld Build, a city-building game. SteamWorld Build is a unique city-building game where players are responsible for creating a successful mining city above ground, while also gathering natural resources underground, while defending themselves from monsters lurking within the mine. According to Thunderful, SteamWorld Build combines elements of Anno, a (25-year-old) real-time strategy economic simulation game , and Dungeon Keeper, a dungeon management simulation game.
