JPEG files are the preferred format for many of us when using our smartphones. While they work well enough for uploading content to social media platforms, professionals prefer RAW images which offer higher quality and allow for greater control over exposure, color balance, sharpness, and other characteristics. The Digital Negative (DNG) image file, invented by Adobe in 2006, helps with this.
To make things even easier for users, Samsung has revamped the Galaxy S23 series to include Adobe Lightroom. According to Stephen Baloglu from Adobe Photography Marketing, RAW photos taken with the new Expert RAW app will be able to open directly in Lightroom due to these improvements – a significant improvement compared to using other apps that don’t recognize them.
Samsung has made the Lightroom app available without pre-installing it on its phones. When customers use Expert RAW, they will be prompted to install Lightroom and make it their default photo editor – and all for free! If users want access to additional features, such as syncing with a laptop, however, a $10 per month subscription is required. Fortunately, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 trio offers a two-month free Premium trial for those who want full access without an immediate financial commitment.

Galaxy S23 phones take smartphone photography to a new level
Smartphone cameras have improved dramatically in recent years, and industry professionals predict that they will soon replace traditional cameras due to the image quality they offer. But the thin and compact nature of smartphones doesn’t leave much room for larger image sensors. As a result, they use computational photography techniques — merging multiple frames into a single photo — for better image quality and dynamic range. Shooting RAW photos is one way for professionals to replace their traditional cameras with smartphones.
