Despite not having any hardware devices or products to present, the companies made a big announcement of their collaboration.
On stage, Amon emphasized that they are striving to create a new era of deeply immersive digital experiences that symbiotically combine our physical and online realms. By leveraging Snapdragon XR with Samsung’s remarkable products and Google services as a foundation, this vision is now possible.
Lockheimer noted that Google has invested in both AR and VR “across all experiences and technology.” He added that this partnership will provide “advanced hardware and cutting-edge software” to “deliver next-generation technology.”

This project between the three giants sounds like a form of collaboration to fend off competition from Meta and Apple. Meta has been a proponent of investing in virtual reality, even introducing a $1,499 Quest Pro headset last year. Plus, rumors suggest that Apple will soon launch its own mixed reality device—so it’s essential for these other companies to work together to maintain an edge over their competitors.
In a conversation with CNET, Roh - head of Samsung's mobile division - explicitly stated that each company will bring its own skills to building a mixed reality platform.
"Each player will take on a different category and then we will collaborate across the spectrum," Roh informed the publication.
Of the three companies, Qualcomm has been the most active in this area, supplying its chips to various headset manufacturers, such as Meta.

The three companies have collaborated on several projects. In addition to hardware, Samsung and Google have teamed up to release a version of Wear OS and enable cross-platform compatibility for Matter-enabled smart home products.
