Security researchers report two major vulnerabilities in the Galaxy Store

Recently, cybersecurity researchers at NCC Group uncovered two critical vulnerabilities in the Galaxy Store. The CVE-2023-21433 vulnerability allows hackers to secretly install illegal apps on your phone! This type of attack is particularly dangerous, as users won’t even be notified that something has been downloaded to their device.

The flaw, CVE-2023-21434, was caused by a misconfigured web view within the Galaxy Store, which allowed the user to bypass restrictions and access malicious URLs. Attackers could exploit this vulnerability either through a hyperlink sent via Google Chrome or through a malicious application pre-installed on the device. This would open a web page containing JavaScript code, which would then be executed.

On November 23 and December 3 of last year, NCC Group disclosed vulnerabilities in the Galaxy Store. The affected versions included 4.5.44.1, 4.5.48.3. However, other versions may be affected as well! Once Samsung was notified of these issues, their team acted promptly – within two weeks of receiving the reports – which ultimately prevented any further harm or damage that might otherwise have occurred due to these security vulnerabilities!

To ensure the safety and security of your Galaxy devices, version 4.5.49.8 was released on January 1, 2023, to fix both vulnerabilities identified by researchers for the Galaxy Store app. According to the researchers, security measures in Android 13 prevent the exploitation of the first issue (CVE-2023-21433). However, Galaxy devices running Android 13 are still vulnerable to the other flaw. It is recommended to install the latest update to address potential other issues.
