Microsoft: Fixed a bug that affected Task Manager

Microsoft has addressed a known issue that made parts of the Task Manager unreadable after installing the November update “KB5020044” on Windows 11 22H2.

As the company explained when it confirmed the issue two weeks ago, affected users are seeing parts of the Task Manager UI (User interface) appear in garbled colors, making it unreadable.

The bug behind these UI issues was fixed in the Windows 11 update “KB5021255” during this month’s Patch Tuesday.

“This update addresses a known issue that may affect the task manager. It may display some parts of the UI with garbled colors. Some parts of the task manager may be hard to read,” Microsoft.

“This issue may occur if you have “Choose your mode” set to “Custom” in Personalization > Colors of Settings.”

Workaround also available for already affected users

Microsoft is also providing a temporary workaround to help affected users of the “Windows 11 22H2” version who have not installed the December updates to mitigate the issue.

The workaround requires affected users to choose between Dark or Light mode for the “Choose your mode” setting.
To do this, they need to right-click on the desktop, go to Personalize > Colors, and then select “Dark” or “Light” for “Choose your mode.”

This month's Patch Tuesday updates also addressed an LSASS (Local Security Authority Subsystem Service) memory leak issue that led to freezes and restarts of some domain controllers after last month's Windows Server updates.

Unfortunately, Microsoft confirmed that the Windows Server updates released during the December patch would cause some errors when creating new virtual machines on some Hyper-V hosts.

However, only Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 should be affected after installing the updates "KB5021237" and "KB5021249".
