On Wednesday, Activision Blizzard tweeted that its Battle.net service had suffered a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. A short time later, it said the attacks it was monitoring had ended.

Blizzard Entertainment on Wednesday said the company was experiencing a DDoS attack. As a result, fans of games like Overwatch and World of Warcraft could experience problems while the company worked to fix the situation. At the time the company announced the attack, it was unclear how long those problems would persist , so the company suggested users play another game until the company could get a handle on the issue.

In the original tweet, posted at 7:11 PM ET by the @BlizzardCS Twitter account, the company said “we are currently experiencing a DDoS attack, which may result in high latency and disconnections for some players. We are actively working to mitigate this issue.” That first tweet mentioned a single attack, but a second one that said the issues had been resolved, posted at 8:29 PM ET, referred to attacks — plural.

Based on user reports on Downdetector, players were experiencing issues with games like Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty (although which title is not specified) and Diablo III.

Battle.net experienced DDoS attacks for about an hour in November that similarly caused problems for players trying to play games.
