A new and very significant restructuring seems to be on the horizon at Xbox, as Microsoft is reportedly reexamining the way it organizes its gaming studios and major franchises. At the center of the latest information is a name that could hardly go unnoticed: Halo.
Microsoft is preparing for another wave of layoffs in its gaming division, expected to include hundreds of employees, according to a new report from The Information . At the same time, the company is reportedly planning mergers and studio moves between Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and Activision Blizzard King (ABK) .
New cuts and change of strategy
The information comes just a few months after the major restructuring wave that occurred in July. At that time, about 1,600 jobs were immediately eliminated, while the total number of layoffs announced during the financial year reached about 3,200.

The new direction suggests that Microsoft is attempting to cut operating costs while simultaneously focusing more resources on franchises it deems strategically important. In other words, instead of a large and dispersed development structure, Xbox appears to be considering a model where the biggest brands will receive greater priority and more centralized management.
This logic is particularly important after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, as Microsoft now has a huge portfolio of franchises and studios operating under the same corporate umbrella.
Halo at the center of the scenarios
In this environment, the rumor that Halo could be transferred under the supervision of Activision Blizzard King. The well-known insider NateTheHate claimed that "Halo is being transferred under ABK", clarifying, however, that the information concerns the franchise itself and not necessarily the entire team currently working on the series.
This distinction is important. A change in corporate oversight doesn't necessarily mean that Halo Studios will be shut down or that the developers will be transferred to Activision. It could mean a change in management structure, project scheduling, or how available resources are allocated.
This rumor is not new
This isn't the first time the scenario has surfaced. As early as July, there had been reports that Microsoft was considering bringing Halo under Activision's supervision.

At the same time, there were reports that Sledgehammer Games, known for its work on the Call of Duty series, had presented a proposal for a new Halo project with an emphasis on multiplayer. If the latest information is confirmed, such developments could be part of a broader effort to utilize different development teams within the Microsoft ecosystem.
What does this mean for the future of Xbox?
The potential restructuring marks a significant shift in Xbox strategy. Microsoft now owns huge franchises like Call of Duty, Warcraft, Diablo, Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Halo, allowing it to seek synergies between different studios.
The question is whether this unification will lead to a more efficient use of resources without affecting the identity of each franchise. For players, the changes could translate into a different release pace, new collaborations between studios, or even projects that would not have been easy to implement until now.
At the same time, the ongoing staff cuts raise reasonable questions about how development teams will be formed and how much projects already in progress will be affected.
