Apple CEO John Ternus gave an interview to Canal+'s Clique show , in which he discussed the design of the new iPhone Duo , the challenges Apple faced during its development, as well as his future plans for the company.
John Ternus – What he said about the design – challenges of the iPhone Duo
Regarding the design of the iPhone Duo, Ternus explained that Apple chose a form factor similar to the iPad when the device is open. This choice was not accidental, but was based on the company's desire to create a large-screen experience that is familiar and comfortable for users. "I think it's something new and unique," Ternus said, adding that Apple didn't want to follow the trend of other companies simply combining two phone shapes to create a square effect.
Instead, Apple sought to create a new aspect ratio that meets user expectations.
The development of the iPhone Duo was not without its challenges. Ternus said there were “so many problems” that had to be solved, but the foldable design was an opportunity for Apple employees to show off their ingenuity and develop entirely new solutions. One of the key problems they faced was designing the hinge and displayto be reliable and durable.

Apple had to ensure that the device could withstand daily use without experiencing any problems, which required innovative solutions in the field of hardware engineering.
Animation and Siri AI
When asked about his favorite feature on the iPhone Duo, Ternus mentioned the animation that appears when the device is opened. “It’s really fun,” he said, adding that the animation brings a smile to the user’s face and adds a playful dimension to the device.
Ternus also reiterated Apple's position on AI companions, saying that Siri AI "is not designed to be your friend." This approach reflects Apple's philosophy of not replacing human relationships with technological solutions. "Human relationships are how we learn, grow, and find joy and happiness," Ternus emphasized.

Ternus as Apple's new CEO
Ternus also spoke about his new position at the company. When then-CEO Tim Cook and Apple's board asked Ternus if he wanted to be Apple's next CEO, he expressed surprise. "When Tim asked me if it was something I would consider, it was a good thing I sat down, because I never would have imagined it would happen," Ternus said.
As Apple's CEO, Ternus has said he has no plans for radical change at the company. Instead, he intends to continue the emphasis on innovation and product development, which has always been at the heart of Apple. "I'm very passionate about products. I love creating things. That's why I've been here so long. That's why I love what I do," he said, adding that he doesn't see taking the position as a radical change.

Ternus also expressed his delight at having the opportunity to say the phrase “one more thing” on stage at Apple’s September event, a phrase that has been associated with Steve Jobs and Tim Cook. “I’ve seen Steve say it, and I’ve seen Tim say it,” he said. “And so, having the opportunity to say it myself, it was really magical. It almost gives you goosebumps.”
