Microsoft is working on a new built-in command-line utility called “Disk Usage” that reports the disk space a folder is using.

Over time, it's common to run out of storage space and not know which programs or files are using up all the hard drive space. In the past, users would have to download free tools like TreeSize to list folders by space usage.
While playing around with the new Windows 10 Insider builds 20277 and 21277 released last week, BleepingComputer discovered that Microsoft has introduced a new DiskUsage utility. This utility can scan entire drives or specific folders and report how much space each folder is using.
“Disk Usage” is located under C:\Windows\System32\diskusage.exe and will display usage instructions when you enter diskusage /?, as shown below.

This program is in early development, with some features not working as expected. There are also some spelling errors in the instructions. By default, when running “Disk Usage”, it will report file and folder sizes in bytes, which is not as useful as showing sizes in MB, GB, etc.
As mentioned earlier, Disk Usage is still in its early stages and there is no information on when it will be available. You can try it out now by installing the latest Windows 10 Insider builds.
