According to journalist Sharri Markson, a massive leakhas exposed data on nearly two million CCP, now working around the world, as well as information about the party's activity under the presidency of Xi Jinping.

Ms. Markson said the leak concerns a registry containing the details of Communist Party members, including their names, party position, birthday, national identity number and nationality.
"It is believed to be the first leak of its kind in the world," the Sky News journalist said.
“What is remarkable about this database is not just that it exposes individuals who are members of the communist party and who are now living and working all over the world, from Australia and the US to the UK, but the fact that it reveals how the party operates under its President Xi Jinping.”
Ms Markson said the leak shows that members of the party are embedded in some of the world's largest companies and even government agencies.
"Along with the personal identification data of 1.95 million Communist Party members, mainly from Shanghai, there are also details of 79,000 Communist Party subgroups, many of them within companies.".

Ms. Markson said the leak is a major security breach that could damage Xi Jinping's image.
"It will also cause a problem for some global companies that appear to have no plan to protect their intellectual property from theft and economic espionage," the journalist added.
Ms Markson said the data was extracted from a Shanghai server by Chinese dissidents in April 2016, who were using it for counter-intelligence purposes.
“It was then leaked in mid-September to the newly formed international bipartisan group, the China Inter-Parliamentary Alliance, which is made up of 150 lawmakers around the world.”
Ms Markson said it was “worth noting that there is no suggestion that these members have committed espionage, but the concern is whether Australia or these companies were aware of the CCP members and if so, whether steps have been taken to protect their data and people.”.
