Microsoft has released an update for all supported versions of Windows 10 that dynamically enables the Battery Health Manager option in the BIOS of supported HP business laptops.
HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS battery management feature on certain HP business notebook computers that modifies how a battery is charged to increase its lifespan.

“HP Battery Health Manager is a BIOS-level setting available on most HP business notebooks that is designed to optimize battery life by reducing the laptop battery’s exposure to key factors, such as continuous charging, that can accelerate battery swelling and chemical aging over time,” explains HP.
In the past, HP laptop owners had to manually enable Battery Health Manager in the BIOS. With improved charging algorithms, HP now wants this setting to be enabled for all supported devices.
To achieve this, HP has partnered with Microsoft to release a Windows 10 update KB4583263 that automatically enables Battery Health Manager and sets it to the “Let HP Manage My Battery Health” setting.
“When the feature was first introduced, customers had to manually enable HP Battery Health Manager to the recommended setting of “Let HP Manage My Battery Health.” As usage for business notebooks have changed over time, HP has updated HP Battery Health Manager with new, improved charging algorithms. This makes it more effective at mitigating factors that can accelerate battery and chemical aging. HP is working with Microsoft to deliver an HP solution to enable this setting on select HP notebooks so you don’t have to manually” HP explains.
For those who don't want to use Battery Health Manager, HP states that users should change the BIOS setting to "Maximize my battery duration," which will adjust charging and performance.
This update is rolling out today to Windows 10 1809, Windows 10 1903, Windows 10 1909, Windows 10 2004, and Windows 10 20H2 users.
