In recent months, many scams that exploit the COVID-19 pandemic to attract unsuspecting victims. For example, a COVID-19 domain is blacklisted every 15 minutes, while 35 COVID-19-related spam emails are analyzed every minute.
RiskIQ ,which identified the top threats for 2020, found that cybercrime costs about $25 per minute, while the average cost of a malicious attack is about $5 per minute. This means that the global cost of cybercrime per minute will reach almost $11.5 million by 2021, a 100% increase since 2015.

RiskIQ CEO Lou Manousos said that these statistics indicate that cyber threat activity is widespread, while also showing the strength of the threat to the defense of the enterprise. Manousos added that, to eliminate such threats, it is necessary to take some basic and essential measures, including more and more substantial knowledge about the respective threats, greater awareness, but also the effort to implement the necessary security.
Additionally, according to statistics, approximately 375 new threats appear every minute, a new vulnerability is discovered every 24 minutes, over 16,000 files are compromised every minute, and a new Magecart attack is recorded every 16 minutes .

Steve Ginty, director of cyber threat intelligence at RiskIQ, said that when it comes to scams like COVID-19 spam emails, he sees thousands of new COVID-19 domains. He also noted that attackers are always exploiting current events and using them as bait in their campaigns, with COVID-19 proving particularly useful for them. This is precisely why there are so many virus-related threats.
Regarding attacks , Ginty explained that systems detect dozens of Magecart attacks every day. However, he clarified that it is not possible to determine the exact number of victims that the attackers are targeting in these attacks. However, injecting their code into a website is their primary goal and a good and clear indication that some malicious activity has taken place.
