While Google's Chrome browser has been having a tough time, its competitors have seized the opportunity. In response, the company has given users a very good reason to keep using browser its .

TheWindowsClub has revealed that Chrome is about to become incredibly more efficient , based on information obtained from internal company sources. The new Google Chrome feature appears to result in increased battery life on laptops and smartphones .
According to TheWindowsClub, this can be achieved by limiting the use of unnecessary Javascript in tabs that run in the background. These actions involve functions such as file logging, ad, mouse position tracking, and various others. So Google discovered that they consume a significant portion of battery power, and decided to take advantage of it.
In a test conducted by TheWindowsClub, Google limited Javascript checks to once per minute and opened 36 Chrome tabs in the background. This action increased battery life by 28%, or about 2 hours more.
In a second test, the company also discovered that even when the browser was running intensive tasks in a foreground tab, such as YouTube, limiting Javascript checks still had an effect, with a 13% increase.

For those impatient, this feature is available for testing, thanks to a hidden Chrome Canary, as spotted by TheWindowsClub. You can enable it in four simple steps:
- Type "chrome://flags" in the search field
- Search for: "Throttle Javascript timers in background"
- Select "Enable immediately when a tab is hidden"
- Restart Chrome
Chromium- based browsers may get the same feature , but the key for Google is to keep Chrome as " light " as possible, given the rise of browsers like Brave and Vivaldi , which have focused more on privacy and hostile ads.
Microsoft recently helped Google's browser with memory optimization through " Segment Heap ", which we saw in the Windows 10 May 2020 Update . Early tests show that it could reduce Chrome's memory consumption by a third .
