Google Maps is used by millions of people, helping them get around on a daily basis.
The company is constantly trying to improve the service and offer a better experience to users. It has been revealed that Google is testing a new feature in Maps to show traffic lights on the roads! Of course, it may be a feature only for Android smartphones.
Droid -Life presented several screenshots that show traffic lights on the roads of the maps.
The screenshots, taken by a user living in West Des Moines, a city that will soon support Google Fiber, show several spots on Google Maps streets where city lights are clearly visible at intersections. They are visible in the basic map view, as well as during navigation.
This feature could be useful for many reasons, but especially when navigating. It could also alert drivers when they are about to encounter a traffic light, so they don't get caught off guard.
Of course, Google Maps cannot show the current status of the traffic light so that drivers know whether they should stop or continue on their way.
From what we know, we can say that it appears to be some kind of Server-Side test, but the test set may be quite small or very limited with availability only in certain regions and cities.
It should be noted that Apple for its own maps and navigation app. As the photos show, there is no sign that Google is copying it in terms of the stop sign display provided in Apple Maps, or at least not yet.
