JioMeet gets updated with additional security features

Reliance Industries' free video conferencing app JioMeet on Tuesday added additional security features to prevent attacks like those that took place on Zoom where hackers posted obscene images on screens.

JioMeet, which allows video conferencing for up to 24 hours for free that is encrypted and password-protected, has added a security feature that allows the conference host to prohibit guests from joining a meeting without logging in or revealing their identity.

The feature, company sources said, was added after reports of hacker intrusions into Zoom video conferences.

JioMeet, in its first week of launch, introduced six features and improvements, including new functionality for corporate customers, according to sources, adding that the new features prevent intruders from entering a conference.

The improved feature app is available on Google's Play Store and will soon be available on iOS, he said.

New features include personal meeting rooms with the ability to set a password to facilitate recurring meetings, such as school classes and daily meetings.

Also, a JioMeet user can now expand and “pin” a participant in a meeting by double-clicking on the participant’s video.

JioMeet also showcased integration with traditional video conferencing solutions used by corporate customers to collaborate across multiple offices from fixed locations.

The use case is to offer flexibility to businesses by allowing their employees to collaborate simultaneously from the office and home, they said.

The version also features a single-use login for corporate users, which allows users to use their existing user ID and password.

Corporate users now have the ability to search and conference with other colleagues without leaving the main meeting.

Also, in this version, JioMeet has revamped its user interface and appearance.

JioMeet, which was launched on July 2 afternoon, supports HD audio and video calls with up to 100 participants and offers features like screen sharing , meeting scheduling capabilities , and more.

But unlike Zoom, it doesn't impose a 40-minute time limit. Calls can last up to 24 hours.
