Members of the XDA-Developers.com forum show how a rooted Android phone can enable jailbreaking on an iPhone, with Checkra1n.
In fact, Jailbreaking an iPhone is similar to rooting an Android device . In both cases, users are trying to gain elevated privileges so that they can disable protective measures and restrictions built into the operating systems (iOS and Android, respectively). Rooting is an easier process thanks to the cooperation of OEMs. However, jailbreaking an iPhone remains a challenge because Apple is more strict and prevents such attempts. Every time a jailbreak is released, Apple works hard to fix the vulnerabilities that allowed jailbreaking.
Checkra1n It is said to be the first jailbreak for Apple devices running iOS 13.It also works on a wide variety hardware . Checkra1n uses an exploit that targets a ROM Boot in Apple hardware, rather than an iOS vulnerability. For this reason, it is probably the only solution that will work even with software updates applied to vulnerable phones. However, one drawback is that Checkra1n is a semi-tethered jailbreak, which means you have to re-jailbreak every time you reboot the device. Also, the jailbreak was initially only possible via macOS v10.10+.
Recently, however, Checkra1n has gained support Linux. This means that users can jailbreak iOS 13 using a Linux computer. Obviously, this expands the possible platforms that users can use, but as one Reddit user discovered, it can also address the problem of semi-tethered jailbreaks, allowing jailbreaking using a rooted Android smartphone!
[News] It is possible to run checkra1n from an Android device! from jailbreak
The Reddit user explained that there are some prerequisites. You must have:
- An iPhone or iPad that is compatible with Checkra1n (iPhone 5s -iPhone X, iOS 12.3 and above).
- A rooted Android device , preferably with newer versions of Linux and Android. The demo uses a Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact running Android 10, with Linux kernel 4.14, and rooted with Magisk .
- A terminal app on your Android phone.
- One way to connect the two phones . Some Apple USB-C to Lightning cables don't work.
The steps for jailbreaking are very simple, especially if we compare them to procedures we have used in the past:
- Download Checkra1n binary for Linux
- Place the downloaded binary on your rooted Android phone.
- Connect your iDevice (iPhone) to your Android phone.
- Open the terminal app and gain root access by typing the “su” command.
- Type “lsusb” to check if your iDevice is recognized. The USB ID displayed should be “05ac:12a8”.
- Put your iDevice into DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode. You can find device-specific instructions here.
- Check if the iDevice is still recognized with “lsusb”. The USB ID, which is displayed, should now be “05ac:1227”.
- Run checkra1n in CLI mode using the command “./checkra1n -c”.
- Your iDevice should now be jailbroken. If it doesn't work the first time, try again.
If you have a rooted Android smartphone, then you can jailbreak an iPhone with these simple steps. However, keep in mind that jailbreaking and rooting come with their own risks, so think carefully before attempting it.
