LG Electronics has decided to deploy its Cloi robots (on a trial basis) to Seoul National University Hospital, a children 's hospital , with the aim of improving medical care .
The company first showed its Cloi robot at CES in Las Vegas in 2018. However, it did not make the best impression on the audience at that time, since during the demonstration the robot did not respond to the questions and commands of David VanderWaal, vice president of LG.
The South Korean electronics company has been working hard to improve its Cloi robots and has decided to deploy 25 robots to a hospital in Seoul in an effort to improve medical care and make the stay of young children in the hospital a little more pleasant.
As we said, the Cloi robots will be placed in the hospital on a trial basis. The trial will last three months. The robots will be located in various places, including the intensive care unit and the operating room.
LG's main goal is to provide emotional support to children. Hospitals are not something that anyone likes, let alone young children. Children are usually afraid of this new and, often, unfriendly environment. The placement of Cloi robots aims to create a more pleasant and fun atmosphere, so that young patients feel more comfortable.

The LG Cloi robot features a screen 5-inch LCD and is powered by Naver's Clova platform artificial intelligence . The robots will include children's contentsuch as music, games and audio books.
Beyond this, however, LG in collaboration with the hospital will use the robots for other services, such as making video calls between staff, translating to facilitate foreign patients, and providing instructions to parents before each medical procedure.
The company hopes the robots will act as caregivers and friends for children.
According to an LG announcement, the placement of the Cloi robots at this stage will be a trial, however, the company and the University Hospital intend to continue collaboration after the three-month period for the permanent implementation of robotics in hospitals.
LG is also collaborating with CJ Foodville to apply robotics to restaurants.
