Last night, WordPress 5.3 was released! It’s named “Kirk” in honor of jazz artist Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

WordPress 5.3 Kirk expands and improves on the existing block editor. The editor’s new features increase design possibilities, provide additional design options, and style variations that give designers more control over the appearance of a site.
This version also brings the Twenty Twenty theme giving the user more design flexibility with the block editor.
This update brings over 150 new features and improvements, including improved large image support for uploading unoptimized, high-resolution photos taken with your smartphone or other high-quality cameras. Combined with larger default image sizes, your images will always look their best.
Improvements include the integration of block editor styles into the admin panel. These improved styles fix many accessibility issues: such as color contrast in form fields and buttons, standardization in the default WordPress color scheme, and more.
After the improvements to the block editor, we should also mention Twenty Twenty which is designed for more flexibility.
In addition to the above, the new version also brings the following features:
Automatic Image Rotation
You can edit images after uploading, but you can also rotate them, something that WordPress has been thinking about for the last 9 years.
Improved Site Health Checks
The new version 5.3 identifies problems faster and suggests changes.
Admin Email Verification
If you are an admin and do not visit the site, the new version will send you periodic emails to verify your email address. This will reduce the risk of being locked out if you change your email address.
Download the new version, or upgrade directly from the dashboard.
