How to protect your smartphone from damage

Breaking a smartphone is something that happens to almost everyone. In fact, smartphone users in the United States spent $3.4 billion replacing over 50 million broken screens.

Smartphone repairs can be a hassle, not to mention how expensive they can get. To keep your smartphone running for as long as possible, follow these tips.

Use a case and screen protector

This one is obvious, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who don’t buy a case or a screen protector. These two are very important for the long-term ownership of a device. Don’t buy cheap cases – a really good one can protect your smartphone from drops, water damage, and all sorts of scratches.

Keep your phone clean

Even after investing in a good case for your smartphone, it is not completely safe from damage. Most people do not realize that dirt, dust and moisture can get into your case over time. These particles and moisture can cause corrosion and damage over time.

To prevent minor damage to your phone, wipe down your smartphone and case with a damp cloth and let them dry. Then, use a clean toothbrush to gently clean the ports on your case and phone. This isn’t something you should do every day or even every week. But it’s a good idea to do it when you get back from a trip – after using your phone at the beach, pool, or camping.

Keep your phone away from extreme temperatures

Too hot or too cold temperatures can wreak havoc on your device. Keep your smartphone out of the sun: simply leaving it in the car on a summer day could expose it to temperatures exceeding 200 degrees.

Keep your phone “off the road”

Life is crazy and you never know when something might cause you to drop or lose your phone. To avoid unexpected cell phone damage, try to leave your phone in one place as much as you can.

For example, it is recommended to have a designated area for your smartphone at home when you are not using it. You should also keep it in a designated pocket in your bag. As often as possible, use Bluetooth to use your phone remotely, including wireless headphones with skip and volume controls to avoid having to constantly have your phone in your hand.

Update your applications and system

Always update your phone's apps and operating system. While it may seem tedious to update your phone, it protects data (not to mention your phone) from hackers. Regular updates also ensure that you're always using the latest, software , which will make using your smartphone more enjoyable.

Reboot your phone once a week

While you are thinking about ways to prevent damage to your mobile phone, you can restart your phone. Having your phone on all the time is not good for it. This constant use can cause a smartphone to overtax its resources, which can lead to slow performance over time.

Restarting your phone occasionally gives you a chance to clear out all the caches and completely restart all the apps. You can think of it as the way you feel after a really good night's sleep. Restarting your phone once a week is a good policy to keep it running smoothly for a long time.

These are just some of the best ways to avoid damage to your phone.
