Cloudflare DNS for Android and iOS: Cloudflare released today two official applications for mobile devices offering the private DNS privacy service (1.1.1.1) to all interested parties.
Mobile apps that run on Android and iOS are now available in the respective stores.
The company first launched the 1.1.1.1 service on April 1, 2018.The service is a basic DNS server, with which Cloudflare guarantees user privacy and response speed.
The service has experienced a few DDoS attacks since its launch and most of the traffic has been considered to be from “garbage,” but privacy advocates consider it to be quite secure.
Thus many activists and journalists use the service to bypass blocks of oppressive governments, but regular internet users also use it to improve their daily connections.
Furthermore, using Cloudflare's DNS prevents internet service providers from tracking the user by examining the logs of their own DNS. Of course, using 1.1.1.1 as a DNS service will not be enough. Those who are interested in additional security need to use an encrypted VPN as well as HTTPS.
Using 1.1.1.1 requires certain settings on desktop devices, which we have described in an earlier post.
However, mobile device users, although they could use the service immediately after its launch in April, do not seem to adopt it.
The reason? There's no easy way to change DNS on mobile devices like there is on computers. But with apps released today for Android and iOS, Cloudflare makes switching DNS on your phone a breeze.
